Earth Day is a solid tradition at EMO. Every year, EMO and the Owens Valley Paiute-Shoshone Cultural Center partner up to host a (mostly) outdoor event and gathering, and a community trash clean-up event. Participants in the clean-up target areas on the reservation in groups, families, or solo, contributing to a waste stream sorting effort with EMO staff, and receive breakfast for their efforts.
The event often includes kids activities such as crafts and games, FirstBloom activities, live music, demos and expos, crafts, food, informational booths, and a raffle.
Past participants have included: Tribal Council and Miss Bishop Paiute, BPT Public Works, KBPT Radio, the Harry Andreas Band, Fort Independence Environmental Office, Toiyabe Indian Health Project, Inyo County, Wildcare Eastern Sierra, High Point Solar, Sierra Solar, SCE, GRID Alternatives, and the Office of Indian Energy, Bureau of Land Management and many vendors offering traditional and artisinal food and crafts.
Thank you to everyone who participated in April 2021 for the "Earth Week" activities- FSP seed exchange, trash pick up and creek area clean up, off-Reservation clean up with the Bishop Climbing Rangers, and community photo web gallery entries.
